Evergreen and fairly fast growing, the Samuel Sommer Magnolia promises to make a bold statement with its 40 foot height and 30 foot spread. Magnificent 14” wide flowers are its crowning glory though the large leathery deep green leaves with fuzzy brown undersides are attractive in their own right. Most often used as a specimen tree, it also functions well as a windbreak when planted side by side. Careful positioning is key to success. Well-drained rich soil with an acid soil amendment is key at planting time.
